What Is A Public Adjuster?

A Public Adjuster is an insurance claim adjuster who is employed by the policyholder for preparation, presentation, adjustment, negotiating and appraising an insurance claim. Aside from an Attorney and the Broker of record, Public Adjusters licensed by State Department of Insurance are the ONLY type of claims adjusters that can legally represent the rights of an insured during the insurance claim process.
 
Public Adjusters are knowledgeable about the coverages provided by an insurance policy. They generally work on a contingent fee basis, that is, for a percentage of the amount recovered.

What Are The Other Types of Insurance Claims Adjusters?

Staff Adjusters are employed by the insurance company. Independent Adjusters are independent contractors hired by the insurance company. These adjusters represent the insurance company during the claims process. 

What Will Happen When the Insurance Adjuster Arrives?

An Insurance Adjuster is responsible for assessing the damage to your home FOR The Insurance Company.

The adjuster may take a recorded statement from you, give you an advance on your personal property to buy needed items like new clothes, and set you up in a hotel or rental unit if your house is unlivable.

What Does My Homeowner's Insurance Policy Cover?

All homeowners policies cover loss by fire and most common perils such as windstorms, hail, and vandalism. Most policies pay for three types of damages:

               1) dwelling loss (damage to the house)

               2) personal property loss (damage to your household contents)

               3) additional living expenses (the cost of living elsewhere while your house is  being repaired)
